DRUMBEAT in Mental Health and AOD
Through delivery of DRUMBEAT program TMF Training Solutions’ vision is to build better futures for individuals, families and communities, through bringing lasting change to those harmed by alcohol, drugs and mental wellbeing issues.
The DRUMBEAT program utilises both social learning and cognitive behavioural therapy to deliver a range of therapeutic and social learning outcomes including improved emotional regulation, increased self -esteem, and improved social skills, that lead to better relationships and an increased sense of belonging.
DRUMBEAT in Mental Health
Client groups have included both adults and adolescents with diagnosis that include Schizophrenia, Depression, Drug Induced Psychosis, Bipolar Affective Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. For many people recovering from or living with mental illness, social interaction is difficult and anxiety producing. DRUMBEAT has been a safe way of initialising contact between people and reducing their fears as well as improving their social competence.
DRUMBEAT for use in Drug & Alcohol Prevention and Treatment
DRUMBEAT is in use in a range of settings related to the drug and alcohol field, including:
- Prevention – with ‘at risk’ population groups
- Early Intervention – with adults and young people known to be using drugs and alcohol
- Complimentary Therapy – in conjunction with mainstream approaches to treatment
- Treatment – As a stand-alone treatment with adults and young people with complex needs or who are resistant to traditional talk based approaches
DRUMBEAT author’s Holyoake, maintains a commitment to evidence based practice and a wide range of studies have been completed to ensure the effectiveness of the program in meeting its goals.
At the core of the DRUMBEAT program is a focus on social connection. The universal nature and importance of relationship issues allows the program to maintain relevance across cultures, genders and age groups. Behind the challenges faced by most people struggling to find meaning and focus in their lives are relationship issues, it is widely agreed that healthy relationships are the building blocks of happy and productive lives.
